WordPress 1.0 in Action

Upgrading WordPress from 0.72 to 1.0 went really well.

The most visible improvements are:

  • Multiple categories
  • Semantic permalinks (old links still work)

Other, less visible highlights include:

  • Leaner and meaner code
  • Improved admin interface
  • Easier installation and upgrade (from simple to dead-simple)
  • Support for Atom feeds

And there's a lot more where all this came from.

Note: The development team are working on a 1.0.1 version that will address some minor issues with the 1.0 release. This weblog is currently using the January 4 CVS version, which is closer to 1.0.1 than 1.0.

Update: Nightly builds are now available.
