WordPress 1.0

WordPress 1.0 is out. The release represents a major upgrade from the previous 0.72 version, with a wide range of new and useful features.

Although this is the first integer release, the low version numbers used until now never did WordPress justice. WP has in fact long been a very capable and user-friendly personal publishing platform, built on PHP and MySQL, which are available on virtually every webhost, and with a strong focus on web standards.

Compared to Movable Type, another popular weblog engine, WordPress has significantly fewer requirements and is considerably easier to install. It is also free and open source, with a very active and helpful support forum, including exemplary involvement from lead developers Matthew Mullenweg and Mike Little.

WordPress powers this weblog, and the experiences have been surprisingly effortless and enjoyable from the very first post. It is highly recommended.

I used WordPress on my current blog - b2 on TechnicallyWorking. I prefer WordPress - even though they're closely related.

Ease of use, ease of styling, clean code, easy to alter. I just like it. Plus the Admin interface is improved.

I looked at setting up several different ways before deciding on WordPress - it just seemed like the right choice for someone who doesn't have the time to mess around.

    Just my opinion.
